The problem:

 “Employees of leaders who lack empathy feel less involved, appreciated and rewarded and view the organisation in a negative way. 

… also alienate devoted employees and jeopardise the wellbeing culture of an organisation” (Holt & Marques, 2010).

The Love Out Loud survey found that 70% of people felt DISMISSED when they first told someone they were struggling with their mental health.  But by dismissing people’s emotions, we miss valuable opportunities for human connection.  Disconnection lies at the heart of many social ails such as social isolation, self-harm, drop-out, addiction and suicide.  Building connection by enhancing empathy and confronting the reasons for dismissal should be a priority for our workplaces and communities.

The Solution:

Using an emotionally-driven, empathy education approach, we provide workshops that enhance an individual’s capacity for difficult conversations thereby reducing stigma and the negative consequences of disconnection.  Virtual reality has proven to be effective and efficient tool for building understanding and empathy (Schutte & Stilinović, 2017).  Using fully immersive, 360-degree video, LOSE YOUR MIND connects participants emotionally with the experience of someone suffering a severe mental illness.


To seek help, someone struggling with their mental health needs to talk and to talk they need to feel safe to share their truth. By equipping the workplace with greater empathy, understanding and compassion, we create safe spaces for open communication and connection.

For anyone at risk of suffering or currently suffering a severe mental illness, LOSE YOUR MIND increases their opportunity for human connection by enhancing the understanding and empathy of those around them.

Workshops are adapted to your industry, run between 90 mins and one day and cover:


  1. What is it like to have a mental illness? The VR simulation / activities.

  2. What is it and what causes psychosis and mental illness?

  3. How to lovingly talk to someone who might be showing signs of mental illness - either acutely or chronically.

  4. Watch your language - being aware of bias and judgment.

  5. Self-care strategies.

By the end of the course you will learn how:

  1. To recognise the importance of empathy in fuelling connection with their colleagues, clients and families thereby reducing the stigma of mental illness.

  2. To develop personal insight into their own need to be heard and for human connection.

  3. To gain a greater understanding of the issues faced by those struggling with their mental health.

  4. To learn to listen with kindness, love and compassion.

  5. To be a safe space for open communication and connection.

  6. To understand the importance of empathy for self and self-care.
